Obiettivi formativi

The course aims at providing student with the following knowledge:
- Understand the meaning, characteristics and significance of the city in the history of the human being.
- Understand the meaning, characteristics and significance of the territory, the environment and the space.
- Understand the role and the relevance of the urban system for the social and economic development and the human well-being.
- Undestand the role and the relevance of several public policies for the city, the territory, the regional space.
- Understand the significance of ‘sustainable development’ and what it implies in terms of urban and regional policies.
- Understand the significance and the relevance of the phenomena related to the climate change and what it means for the city.
- Undestand the significance of several and recent descriptive definitions, as well as: smart city, urban creativity, urban adaptation, sharing economy.

Besides, students will be able to:
- look differently to the city and the territory also in terms of social and economic development.
- Differently consider the role of public policies to achieve a better quality of life.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

For all the students the examination consists of an oral interview of at least a half hour.
Students begin their dissertation with a topic of their choice, then the teacher will check their preparation with questions throughout the course program and bibliography assigned.
The marking will range from 18/31 to 31/31 (cum laude).

Suggested readings, slides, and case studies will be provided for each topic and made available to the students during the course.
