Course programme

The contents of the lecturer's module concern the didactic units of the reference manual aimed at introducing the grammatical and cultural elements of the French language. The contents of the theoretical module provide a linguistic introduction to the above-mentioned elements (phonetics, morphology, vocabulary, syntax), with particular attention to phonetics, the international phonetic transcription system, and phonation organs. Also, a general introduction to French linguistics and the history of the language will be given; in particular, the fundamental concepts of F. de Saussure's linguistics will be introduced. Some of the workshops will focus on the familiarisation with specific textual genres of everyday life (correspondence, writing a CV, etc.). These activities concern in particular the modules of communication sciences, tourism, and economy.

Learning assessment procedures

The final exam includes 2 written tests and one oral test:
1) A written test of grammatical verification, divided as follows: 1a) exercises of transformation, substitution, completion, 1b) exercises of phonetic transcription;
2) Elaborated written test of linguistic or linguistic-communicative comprehension/production/textual analysis (literary text, artwork, comics, advertising, moving image);
3) An oral test (can be taken only after passing the written tests): discussion of the written work, questions about the theoretical content of the course, oral presentation of a topic, or artwork of your choice (eg., a press review independently made, any topics relevant to your academic domain - archaeology, communication, economics -, artistic work or film, piece of music, a literary text). The chosen topics or artworks should be communicated to the teacher by e-mail before the oral interview.
The first written test is common to all and, the second one adapts according to the different academic programs, as well as the oral test.
