Training objectives

The objective is to develop knowledge about:
- the financial system and its functions;
- money and interest rates;
- financial intermediation;
- economics and regulation of markets and institutions;
- main banking activities and contracts.

Course programme

The course examines the financial system and the roles of money and interest rates in modern economies. By using financial tools, such as capitalization regime, discount rate, and analysis of returns, the course focuses on agents' choices at the microeconomic level.
At the macroeconomic level, the course provides an overview of financial flows and the others intermediation channels. To do so, ECB organization and monetary policies are also analyzed coupled with the types of financial markets and main financial instruments.
The course also extends money, bond and stock markets, by highlighting the types of financial institutions.
In a holistic view, the course also offers an overview of main banks' activities, management basics and regulation. Banking contracts, such as funding, payment and credit are studied to complete a banking activities overview.
The study of the other credit intermediaries, mutual and pensions funds, Insurance companies conclude the course.

Learning assessment procedures

Final written exam. The test is made of 22 multiple choices (MC) questions and 2 open questions. Each MC, if correct, gives 0.5 points, while the other 2 parts up to a max of 10 points each. The final mark is given by the sum of points obtained. Marks over 30 give the right to have a distinction ("lode").
The covid outbreak could change examen rules, by introducing an online session with 31 MC questions and 30 minutes available to answer (via Google Module).
