The Doctor Europaeus certificate is an additional qualification to the PhD title that is awarded at a national level. It is not an academic title with supranational value nor a title conferred by international institutions. This qualification must comply with the conditions of the Confederation of EU Chancellors’ Conferences, as implemented by the European University Association (EUA). The list of countries adhering to the convention can be found on the website of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), on the adhering members page.
An additional qualification as Doctor Europaeus may be granted by the University, upon discretion by decision of the Board of Lecturers, when the following four conditions are met:
- Positive assessment of the thesis work by at least two referees, appointed by the Board of Lecturers, from foreign universities in two different EU countries; the referees ' reports shall be annexed to the candidate's final examination report.
- presence in the committee of at least one member from a foreign university european institution.
- the discussion of the thesis must be in a language other than Italian.
- the PhD thesis must be the result of a period of work and research abroad lasting at least three months in an EU country.
PhD students interested in obtaining the Doctor Europaeus qualification must first contact the Board of Lecturers of the relevant PhD Degree Course. By the deadline for submitting the application for the final examination, the PhD candidate must submit the appropriate
