Training objectives
- The course aims at introducing a critical reflection on the relations between law and society, by considering the relation between social and legal changes, the importance of legal sociology for the legal science, the distinction between social and legal rules, the sociological point of view of the theory of action and power. The first part of the course (24 hours) deals with the analysis of organized crime in its sociological and legal aspects. The second part of the course (8 hours) will be devoted to the analysis of case studies. The principal knowledge concern the understanding of the relationship between law and society and the deepening of the main issues and impacts what invest contemporary society and influence the evolution of the law himself. As a result, the main skill, what students will gain, concern the ability to use the legal-sociological perspective for understanding, analysis and criticize of the law.
Prerequisites
- Good knowledge of Italian language, skills of logical reasoning and learning abilities. Interest in the issues addressed during the course .
Course programme
- The course forecasts 40 hours of teaching. The introductory part of the course (8 hours) will be dedicated to clarifying the specificities of the sociological-juridical perspective. The first part of the course (24 hours) will be dedicated to the sociology of organised crime. The second part of the course (8 hours) will be dedicated to the analysis of case studies.
Didactic methods
- The course is organized in frontal lectures on all the topics regarding the course programme. During the lessons particular attention will be paid to the participation of students and indications of sources and materials useful for the analysis of the topics addressed. The lessons will be complemented by seminars, with the participation of internal and external lecturers of UNIFE. The seminars devoted to the sociology of organized crime are part of the series of meetings organized by the Laboratory MaCrO - Laboratory of interdisciplinary studies on the Mafia and other organized crime.
Learning assessment procedures
- The exam consists of a oral test. The aim of the exam is to verify at which level the learning objectives previously described have been acquired. Students have to answer three questions on the topics regarding the course programme. The final grade is the average of the votes allocated to the individual student's answers.
