Training objectives

This course aims at providing the pharmacological basis of therapy, by explaining the mechanisms of drug action and how different drugs should be employed in the clinical settings. The course puts pharmacology in relation with other basic sciences, like physiology and biochemistry, and clinical sciences, with the goal of helping future doctors to plan correct pharmacological therapies. Finally, the course will illustrate gender-related differences in drug response due to pharmaco-dynamic and pharmaco-kinetic differences between sexes, to understand its influence in terms of pharmacological response and risk / benefit ratio of different drugs.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, pathology.

Course programme

Learning assessment procedures

The exam is divided into three parts:
(1) a written examination with open questions of Pharmacology, which aims to test the basic knowledge required for understanding the mode of action of drugs (pharmaco-kinetic and pharmaco dynamic)
(2) a multiple-choice tests on the entire Pharmacology Special, which has the purpose to verify the level of learning the subject matter
(3) an oral exam on Special Pharmacology, oriented to the verification of the ability to use the knowledge gained in clinical practice.
The three parts have a sequential order, whereby the exceeding of the first gives access to the second and that of the second gives access to the third.
The final vote will be the result of the weighted average of the rating of Pharmacology and combined the two tests of Special Pharmacology: at the General will be given a weight of 1 to the Special weighs 6.
