Training objectives
- The course provides a historical-literary formation and students will become familiar with Romance literature in today’s languages known as "regional" or "minority" languages, including Occitan, which has started to produce quality literature in Europe from 19th to 21st Century.

- Provence is the literary and mythical landscape that from medieval times has influenced great European literates (Piere Vidal, Petrarca). Mistral, Nobel Prize winner, in the 1800’s lauded nature (a rural and bucolic Camargue, the Rhone of the boatmen) and the ethos of the Southern Mediterranean. Writers and painters(D’Arbaud, Joseph Roth; Van Gogh) between the 1800’s and 1900’s described its sunniness, completely different from the haziness of Nothern France. Pound and Pasolini made it into a place of mytical and constant inspiration, homeland to Romantic literature and birthplace of every type of poetry. Mythical monsters and spirits of the Earth live there, according to popular medieval legends. Occitan poets and poetesses continue to sing of nature and the Provencal countryside or of the Occitan valleys in Italy, in a sort of pagan religion of the primeval elements and its ancestors, guarantors of its identity disfigured by globalization.
Didactic methods
- Formal lectures (24 hours), participation in conferences (6 hours).
Attendance at conferences and congress is mandatory as they complete the program. Learning assessment procedures
- Final oral exam testing the students' knowledge of the texts, of the critical essays, and of the literary historical context.
