The team is composed of specialists who carry out multidisciplinary researches and field excavations in several prehistoric key-sites which document the first occupation of Europe (Pirro Nord, Ca’ Belvedere di Montepoggiolo, Isernia La Pineta), the middle-upper Palaeolithic transition (Grotta di Fumane, Riparo Tagliente, Ciota Ciara) and settlements dynamics of the last hunters-gatherers (Riparo Tagliente, Mondeval de Sora, Collecchio, Le Mose).

 

Research infrastructures:
The Department includes the following laboratories: Lithic Technology, Large mammals, Small mammals, Zooarchaeology and Taphonomy, GIS, Microscopy (Stereomicroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-RF, Microraman), which host a rich set of archaeological and experimental reference collections. The Department has a furnished library with Italian Prehistoric literature and on-line access to the International Journals and Reviews.

 

Prerequisites of the trainee researcher:

Level of education: “Marie Curie Individual Fellowship” Action requirements.
Research experience: N/A
Required working language: English or French

The University of Ferrara is partner of the European network in Quaternary and Prehistory that enhances exchange and transfer of knowledge in these research fields. This network has been financed by several EU programmes, namely the Erasmus MUNDUS programme for a Master degree and a Doctorate.
