Art and Archaelogy

The research group of “Prehistorical and Anthropological sciences”, in the Department of Humanistic Studies, from more than two decades carry on investigations about the reconstruction of past environments and human behaviours.

The research group members head the systematic excavations of important prehistoric sites, in Italy and abroad (Morocco, Philippines, Colombia), dated from Lower Paleolithic to Mesolithic. The main themes of the research are focused on: palaeontology of macro and micro vertebrates, archeozoology, lithic technology, palaeoanthropology, new methodologies for excavations and GIS. The group’s activities are finalized to the reconstruction of the paleoenvironment and technical behaviour in a diachronic and evolutionary perspective.

The research group takes part in several international research projects and has many collaborations with important European institutions such as the Muséum national d’histoire naturelle de Paris, the Universitat Rovira I Virgili of Tarragona, the Instituto Politecnico de Tomar and the Université de Toulouse.

Concerning the teaching at Bachelor and Master level the teaching contents about prehistory are well developed in the “Laurea Triennale” in Letters, Arts and Archaeology (180 ECTS -, in the Master in Quaternary, Prehistory and Archaeology (120 ECTS - and in the International Erasmus Mundus Master in Quaternary and Prehistory (120 ECTS -
