Training objectives

The course aims at providing a knowledge on trafficking of human beings, as well as of the - criminal, international, human rights - legal strategies set forth but the international community to tackle it.

Prerequisites

A good knowledge of English language is required. A basic knowledge of Criminal Law and International Law is an asset.

Course programme

The course addresses the legal responses to human trafficking, especially adopting inequality and vulnerability as lenses to analyse the phenomenon.
After a general introduction to the topic and of the methodology followed, the course shall be divided in two parts. In the first part, the criminal dimensions of trafficking of human beings will be addressed, whereas in the second part, the fight against inequality will be proposed as an instrument to respond to trafficking in human beings.

Didactic methods

The course will be in person and in streaming.
It shall be composed of lectures in the morning and seminars with materials to be presented and discussed in class. A final roundtable, involving experts from the UN and the Council of Europe, as well as renowned scholars, will also be organized.
Lectures and seminars will take place from 3 March to 13 April 2022, according to the following timetable:
Thursdays and Fridays, 11-13 (lectures) and 14-16 (seminars)
Final Round table: 13 April 2022, 15-19

Home assignment (approx. 4.500 words) [70%] and participation to Seminars and Round Table [30%]
