A working hypothesis to explain the polyploid evolution of Acipenserids as a result of reticular speciation is presented. It is assumed that the process of polyploidization is a result of multiple origin of poly-chromosomal sturgeon species and different DNA content despite similar karyotypes and low rate of mtDNA evolution.
