Research group interests
-         Endocrine, paracrine and autocrine factors regulating the placentation process. In particular, our study is focused on signal transduction pathways possibly involved in the regulation of human trophoblast cell proliferation and migration.
-         Human retinal pigment epithelial (HRPE) cell line as in vitro model mimicking the blood-retina and blood-brain barriers to study endo- and exo-genous compound transport across such structures. In particular, our attention is focused on drug-conjugate transport.
-         Transmission electron microscopy approach to visualize the structures, such as gap and tight junctions as well as desmosomes, involved in cell-cell communications.
-         Human fetal membranes as a model for studying the action mechanisms of hormones, growth factors and cytokines involved in the induction of the delivery.

-         Signal transduction pathways operated by different somatostatin receptor subtypes in mouse retinas during the post-natal development.
