Course programme

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 26575 - PROGETTAZIONE AMBIENTALE
------------------------------------------------------------
The Environmental Design Module sets itself the objective of stimulating students with regard to the interpretation of the subject, ranging from one scale to another as the logical development of a performance-related approach to architectural and urban design.
Particular attention is paid to specialist aspects in construction taking into account the current regulations relating to energy performance in buildings, , aimed at obtaining result featuring "almost zero energy" in terms of CO2 consumption and emissions.
The topics dealt with in the lectures are:
- Definition of environment. Environmental variable in elements of contemporary architecture: the climate in Northern European architecture; ventilation as a project parameter in warm countries; performance connected with environmental variables in architectures created with heavy materials and/or with light materials; design research lines on aspects of the evaluation of environmental impact.
- Problems relating to the design of thermohygrometric well-being: characteristics of construction elements; spatial organization of a building for control of energy-related exchanges; elements for protection against summer heat.
- Problems relating to the design of visual well-being, with particular attention to natural lighting;
- Problems relating to the design of acoustic well-being, with particular attention to the quality of the internal environment.
- Design and environment: search for criteria of compatibility between typological and technological choices and specific contexts, use of runoff coefficients as project tools on an urban scale.
A marked level of integration between the contents of the Enviromental Design module and the discipline characterizing Technical Systems acquires a concrete nature during design processing, on a topic specified at the beginning of the course, and during the Exercises carried out in the weeks of didactic activity.

Didactic methods

------------------------------------------------------------
Modulo: 26575 - PROGETTAZIONE AMBIENTALE
------------------------------------------------------------
TThe Integrated Course consists of 90 hours of lessons: 40 hours: Environmental Design module.
The Environmental Design Module will consist of short lessons supported by supplementary activities; classroom exercises that have the value of intermediate tests, useful for the final evaluation; off-site visits for moments of in-depth study on various topics, that also resort to the contributions of designers and technicians in the appropriate fields.
The “flipped learning” is experimented in order to obtain greater student involvement and a progressive advancement of knowledge. In particular, the students are invited to independently read various teaching materials before lessons in order to dedicate time in the classroom for exercises. The exercises are carried out in groups, must be delivered at the end of each working day in the classroom and are evaluated for the exam.

The activities take place in the second half-year with two meetings a week.
- Tuesday (from 9:00 to 13:00): Environmental Design module;
- Friday (from 09:00 to 13:00): main discipline of Technical Systems.

TThe Integrated Course consists of 90 hours of lessons:
- 50 hours: main discipline of Technical Systems;
- 40 hours: Environmental Design module.
The technical physics module will consist of lessons and exercises on the topics of the course.

The "environmental design" module will consist of lessons supported by supplementary activities that have the value of intermediate tests, useful for the final evaluation: classroom exercises, production analysis, visits to companies and/or places for moments of in-depth study on various topics, that also resort to the contributions of designers and technicians in the appropriate fields.
The activities take place in the second half-year with two meetings a week:
- Tuesday (from 9:00 to 13:00);
- Friday (from 09:00 to 13:00).

Learning assessment procedures

The learning of knowledge and skills provided for the course will be verified by the following tests which must be taken at the same time:
- a written examination, on the contents of the technical physics module;
- a written and oral examination concerning the Environmental Design module; the written exam consists in the delivery of project documents on a topic specified at the beginning of the course; intermediate tests are held during the il semester; the oral exam consists in the discussion of the project documents; the oral exam is taken upon delivery of the project.
The final result will be composed of the sum of the components mentioned above.
